Once you've tasted fresh ground-round (that is, gound-round made from steaks you've purchased ), you will never buy pre-ground beef again. I trim almost all of the fat from the steaks, yet the beef is still most and makes great patties. You do need to use or freeze with 24 hours or the flavor dissipates. I'm also using Emeril's recipes to make Cajun and Boudin Sausage, and they are incredible--as good as anything I've had in NoLa. It takes 3-4 uses to get good at sausage making, but with a little patience you will get the hang of this product--and love it.

After buying a less expensive meat grinder and having nothing but problems with it, prior to it breaking, and then grinding meat the old fashioned way with a hand grinder, I decided to pay the extra money and get something that might actually work! After two extensive meat grinding sessions, I am totally pleased with my Waring Pro. I purposely purchased cuts of meat with alot of fat and gristle to see how the grinder would perform and it performed flawlessly. I cut off some of the fat, cut the meat in 5 inch by 1 inch strips and chilled the meat in the freezer prior to grinding. The Waring Pro MG-800 handled the job with power to spare. The grinder didn't clog and ground its way through about 10 pounds of meat in just a few minutes. Cleanup is simple and re-assembly is a snap. Great product that does what it claims. If you're gonna spend the money, spend a few dollars more and get something that's worth having!

I have this grinder for just over a year but it was only used a couple of times. It worked OK but a long way from commercial grade. Small bone that accidentally stuck in chunk of meat managed to destroy the gear as it would be a cheap plastic. And what a surprise. I took this thing apart and found a plastic gear inside, which is engaged with metal drive shaft of the motor. Combination that should never work. Just wondering about this guy who designed it. Long story short. Almost $100 for the new motor and $65 to install. I will never use it again. Look for something with a completely metal gear. Hope it helps to make a decision.
