I purchased these clippers in order to groom my cocker spaniel at home since bringing her to the groomer was stressful for her, not to mention costly. I paid a lot of money for this kit thinking that one gets what one pays for... NOT so in this case. While the clippers seem high quality with the stainless blades and attachments, it's the inner workings that give this product such a poor rating. After using the clippers "successfully" for five cuts (minus the uncomfortable weight of the clippers, and the blade heating up, requiring breaks mid-groom) the motor would run, but the blades would not move. I maintained the clippers well, cleaning and oiling after after use, so I did not understand the issue. Luckily, my husband is pretty mechanical, so he took the innards apart and came to the conclusion that there is a small plastic piece in the motor that had broken. A PLASTIC piece in the "Pro" clippers that seem so heavy duty! He was innovative and replaced the broken piece with part of a paper clip, and I was able to use the clippers 6 more times, but they are loud and have never been quite right. I'm still searching for the "right" clippers...

I bought these clippers 2+ years ago to send to my friend in Brasil who owns anywhere from 7 to 10 dogs at any one time. She often rescues dogs on the street and their hair is matted or they are infested with fleas and tics. They really need grooming. She also has three long-haired breeds of dogs that need summer haircuts to survive the extreme heat. I didn't know what to buy at the time. I chose this unit, a couple extra blades, a couple extra comb sets, and some extra lubricating oil. The clippers are a bit heavy and need a full grip, but she says she prefers that. She also likes the long electric cord. She doesn't have to worry about batteries not charging in the future. In short, it looks like these will last a long, long time. However, now that I have more experience buying clippers, for someone who might use the clippers more frequently and can afford something more expensive, you might want to try the Wahl Switchblade with some comb sets. My preference is to use clippers with electric cords. There is no worry about batteries not charging. My friend loves these clippers and it was the right choice for her grooming needs for the home at a reasonable cost.

I have had these less than a year and use them to trim my mini schnauzer after he's had a wash and dry. First they are heavy and after the first couple of uses, they tended to get pretty warm even though I use a cooler spray that I bought along with the clippers. I replaced the blades because they got dull pretty fast as well..I've had cheaper clippers that lasted longer and cut better. Now the motor runs but the clippers don't move at all. I've taken extremely good care of these, oiling and cleaning after every use so why they aren't working is beyond me. I've priced the cost of shipping and having the unit repaired and it's going to cost close to $60.......I think I'll spend the money on different clippers because these just aren't worth squat.
