The Staub 5-Quart Dutch Oven does the job where LeCreuset leaves off ... that is, if you want to deeply brown your meats before slow-cooking them. However, mind your liquids carefully -- this terrific pot absorbs very quickly, and unattended items can burn.

Having shopped around extensively for a dutch oven I can say the $111 I paid is a great price for this product. It performs as promised - food cooks up moist and tender. I've made several chicken dishes in it and stuffing for Thanksgiving. It goes from stovetop to oven to table and it cleans up easily, making it really convenient to use.

We bought a few of these for gifts for close friends. One of the pots and one of the lids had unacceptable defects in the enamel finish so we ended up making some returns. Not sure how the quality defects managed to make it past the factory door. The remaining items were in good condition and will be well appreciated by the recipients, I'm sure.
