I had grease all over my hands, garage floor, and grease gun trying to get the pump primed. Lincoln's instructions of leaving the tube loose and exerting force on the plunger handle until grease pushed out of the tube joint is all wrong. You need to take a putty knife and dig the grease out of the tube and press it into the head of the grease gun. Once the head is loaded, screw the tube tight and place the extended plunger handle on the ground. With a small screwdriver or pin punch, press down on the ball valve for loading bulk grease and push the grease gun down on the handle to expell all the air out of the head. Will you get a lot of grease out of the fitting? Yep. Have a couple of rags handy. I also had a lot of trouble with the zirk connector. Once on the zirk fitting, the only way to release the connector was to loosen the barrel and then pull it off the zirk.

Don't waste your money. Directions are poor, difficult to load the grease cartridge. Coupler won't release from zerk as others have indicated. All in all, poorly designed and doesn't work well.

I have a possible solution for the tight-coupler problem. I used to have a Caterpillar grease gun that had to be pried off the fitting just like this gun does. It was also a heavy duty, industrial gun like this Lincoln. I like heavy duty, but there is a limit to how much force needs to be applied to free the coupler from the grease fitting. Most do-it-yourselfers have a Dremel. Dremel makes a small, cone-shaped, red-stone bit. It's head is 5mm wide at the base and 8.5 long. I don't know the item number. It is tiny. Under a magnified florescent work lamp, I lightly ground the three crescent-shaped, spring-loaded clamps that grab the grease fitting, careful to maintain the original contour. This took about two minutes. I'd lightly graze all three clamps and then test the connection. I left the coupler a little tight allowing for future wear. This grease gun is top quality. After a two-minute modification, it is now a customized tool. Guys like to customized cars, motorcycles and guns, why not their tools? I needed a tough pistol-grip grease gun to access tight places where it is nearly impossible to operate a lever-action gun. This works for me. Good luck.
