It works well and fast to boil the water. It could be a little small for some people, but it's perfect for a college student.

This kettle it good for the price but I have trouble with scaling on the heating element. I use filtered water and the heating element on the bottom keeps getting a calcuim type build up that gets in the water and makes it un-drinkable. I know that this is still caused by the water I am using but would be avoided by using an electric kettle with a separate heating element and pot.

Yes, my beloved kettle just died two days ago. The automatic shut-off quit working, and by the time I went to check it, all the water was gone, and there was a horrible odor of melted plastic. It didn't turn on again after that. I have heavily relied on this old gal for the past 9 months. Yep, that's how long she lasted with daily use. She made us boiling water for coffee, tea, recipes, even used it to clean out our 5 gallon water dispenser. I enjoyed this kettle so much, I even gave out a few as gifts. The price certainly cannot be beat. I never experienced any of the odor/taste issues other users have reported. It wasn't until I began my search for a replacement though that I realized there are better options, of course, with a catch. That being the price tag of higher quality models. It never occurred to me, that I was boiling water in plastic. I don't know how this escaped me. We (my family) don't drink our water from plastic bottles, we don't microwave our food on plastic, my babies even drank from glass bottles. If you are unfamiliar with the health concerns about certain uses of plastics, simply conduct some research on topics like "cancer plastics", "BPA", "dioxin". Come to your own conclusions. Thanks to some research done by other reviewers, seems like the best bet for those looking to avoid a kettle with plastic innards, the Hamilton Beach 40898 Cool Touch Tea Kettle is the way to go with its seamless, stainless steel interior. But wow, there's some sticker shock there. With all that being said, it worked well, during it's short life-span, when you consider the small price tag. If your budget allows, you may want to make the investment in the Hamilton Beach model.
