Bought 2 in the past 3 years. Both stopped distributing water after a few carpet cleans. Checked for clogs, etc. Even got online for a quick solution. Couldn't find one. Some say it's the clean water tank which I checked. Don't know. Cleans good when it works, but would not recommend.

I have owned this Hoover model series for almost 3 years. The machine has served me well cleaning up pretty much anything my 4 and 2 year old and dog could throw at it. A few months ago the brushes stopped spinning. I investigated a way to fix it myself and discovered that instead of a belt driving the brushes it is run by a turbine mechanism powered by the air suction of the machine. It is a neat idea but poorly executed. I took the turbine apart to see that one of the spinning gears was rusted and had seized, probably because the air intake is right next to where the water is dispensed onto the carpet. I looked at ordering the part to replace myself and found that a new turbine assembly is $60. The tank had started leaking on the unit as well, it had to varying degrees since I bought the machine, so I decided to cut my losses and go buy a new machine. This time I bought a Bissell pro-heat. In comparison the Bissell and Hoover carpet cleaner seem to be on a par cleaning wise. However there are a few things I like about the Bissell over the Hoover it: was easier to assemble, has belt driven brushes, is quieter, uses a combo water/wastewater tank, and the accessory hose is built into the machine as opposed to having the plug the hose in on the Hoover which is great feature for spot scrubbing stubborn stains. So as I said the Hoover served me well for 3 years, but when parts start breaking it is prohibitively expensive to repair.

I used this shampooer on 3 carpets only one time. I tried to use it about a month later and the brushes have rusted so badly they don't spin. Unfortunately I didn't take it back to the store for a full refund when I first purchased it. The brushes seized up for a short time (but started working)when I tried to resume shampooing carpets after letting it sit overnight. According to the serviceman (it is still under warranty) he said this is a bad redesign and happens frequently. He told me this may keep reoccurring and it will cost $40.00 for the part (not under warranty) and $50.00 to install it. There is nothing you can do to eliminate the rusting of the sealed bearings. He also mentioned throwing it out. This is just what I wanted to hear after spending over $225.00. I also wrote Hoover asking for my money back, we'll see.
