Simply. Advertized as new here,but it came with dryed dirt within the tank and other areas. Should have returned it then! Gave it a chance. It performed well (and I was fortunate) because the last three feet of the final clean water section process it quit on me. Hands & knees with a couple of towels to dry the area somewhat but at least the carpet came clean. From previous reviews online I surmised a good 'bang for the $' cleaner. And it is IF you get one w/o defects. Returned item to Amazon...we'll see how that goes :).

The internet reviews on this Hoover Steam Vac were very positive, including here at Amazon. It seemed like a safe purchase based on so many happy customers. I'm pleased to say it was a GREAT purchase, not just a safe one. I have two small dogs who seem to be dirt magnets, and always run to the carpets to have various accidents, even though much of my house is tile. I've owned the Steam Vac for 2 days, and am very impressed with it's ability to get rid of the dirt, stains, and SMELL of pet messes that were on my area rugs. In addition, my son loves to use the new cleaning machine. I don't even need to ask him to help out! I am adding my voice to the positive reviews and recommend this to pet owners everywhere. Added benefit, it cleans my tile floors nicely, too! Win/win purchase for me!

This is a great carpet cleaner. I was really surprised how much dirt and hair came up out of my carpet. I would change one thing though, I would have the hose already connected to the cleaner and use a switch to turn on the hose feature. Also the attachment leaked a bit when I tried to use the hose cleaner on my couch. Other than that, it is a great cleaner for the price. =) My carpet is nice and clean now.
