This is a fantastic buy. As an ex-electrician I know the importance of having a dependable cordless drill. This one definitely fits the bill. I've been out of the business for 2 years now and used to use a Makita 9-volt cordless drill. One of my co-workers used to have one of these and I was more than impressed with it back then and now am very pleased to own one. It is light-weight compared to the bulky Dewalts, and is unbelievably well balanced. Has a great amount of torque for a 14.4V drill. The bonus flashlight here is amazingly bright, I wish I had had one of these when I was in construction. You can also count on Makita quality. I know this drill will stand up to whatever anyone can give it. If you want the torque of an 18V without the bulky weight, this is the drill for you. Basically, BUY THIS DRILL!!! You won't regret it.

Replaced an old 9 volt drill and this works great! Love how the batteries are interchangeable between the drill and the flashlight. Definitely a great kit for a beginner!

I bought this drill because of the mistaken impression Makita manufactures tools in the USA (Georgia?). But no, it's from China, just like Black&Decker, DeWalt, etc. So there is no reason to pay more for Makita. I heard somewhere Porter Cable manufactures in the US. So I'll look there next time.

I have been using Makita cordless drills for about 15 years and found this drill to stand up to the Makita name in quality and comfort. The drill is well balanced and sits nicely in the hand. the drill is small enough to work on those around the house projects where larger drills would be difficult to work with. the variable speed is nice as well as the high and lo speed setting. This drill is also quiet compared to my other drills which are much louder. I havent really used the flash light unit, but it looks durable and rugged enough to sustain a drop from several feet.

Have owned this machine for about three months and have put together a few projects mostly 1/4" angle iron. I have also cut through 4" round steel with no problem. Power will never be a problem the way it is geared and does have variable speed. No tool quick blade change is nice. It runs just like Millwaukee tool I have used. Would put it on par with that.

I have owned several Makita products and have been a satisfied customer over many years. This was a replacement for the older version of the same drill, but unlike the older Makita cordless this one fails to retain a grip on the bit after even a small amount of use. This is true whether it is being used to drill holes or as a screwdriver. In the mode of unscrewing it is completely hopeless. Given this info I would definitely not buy this product again. This is not to say that Makita makes bad products, but that there is a serious flaw in this model.

When my thirteen-year-old Makita cordless drill packed it in, I bought model 6280 DWRE as a replacement. I was shocked when I opened the box up to see its apparent cheap quality. I thought Makita meant top quality. Not so. Next time I'll definitely comparison shop before buying.

Some of the product descriptions on Makita products are in error. This drill is listed having 2.0Ah batteries. The drill ships with 1.3Ah batteries. I recieved a replacement today with the 1.3Ah batteries again. This drill is fine for occasional users, but for a little more you can get the Makita 6337DWDE 14.4 volt with Ni-MH batteries. Note the the header on this product is wrong because it says the batteries are Ni-Cad. Makita assured me that the product will come with the Ni-MH batteries.

This drill is a great buy for light to medium duty use. Has high RPM and high torque for a 9.6v drill. It actually out performs my old 14.4v drill. Battery life is much better than expected also.

This drill is exactly what I've been looking for. The higher-priced Craftsman models and those like it were a terrible disappointment. Batteries didn't last and replacements were expensive. But Makita is a brand I trust. Years ago I had a Makita rechargeable, and I USED IT TO DEATH. This one is just as good. Tough, durable, and priced right.

After having my Makita 9.6v drill-driver (the older long-handled model) stolen a few years ago, I purchased a 13.2v Craftsman drill. What a big mistake. As I no longer owned my own home, I figured that the Craftsman would be good enough. WRONG!!! No matter what I tried, the batteries for that thing would not keep a charge. How frustrating is it to pick up a tool that you charged 2 days before only to find it dead. This happened time after time. I finally got disgusted enough to simply throw it into the trash where it belonged. Remembering how much I loved and trusted my old Makita, I decided to again buy that brand. All I can say is that Makita still makes the best rechargeable tools. Be it for professional or lighter-duty home use, it's hard to go wrong with Makita. I'm not sure what standards are used to rate battery voltages. It seems odd that the two lower voltage Makita's I've owned outperformed the higher voltage Craftsman. I'm not talking about holding a charge. I'm talking about torque and power. The Craftsman, with it higher voltage, just didn't have the "juice" of the Makita.

This tool took me about 2 1/2 hours to understand and was well worth the time. My first door was retro-fitted into an existing frame. The door hinges matched perfect to the frame hinges. I will make good use of this tool. By the way shipping was Amazonly fast, pun intended.

I just received this jig to replace a number of doors for a client and have yet to use it, but wanted to pass on some rather important info to anyone trying to decide between this one and the bosch unit. I was originally vacillating between them but ended up buying this one merely because my old boss had one years ago, and based on reviews, it sounded less problematic. I plan to do some tall doors eventually, so I was a little concerned that the fourth-hinge kit is listed as no longer being available but figured that I'd work it out somehow. What I wanted to pass on to prospective buyers is that the basic kit I just received included the fourth hinge template and rail to accomodate doors up to 8-feet tall. It also included the corner chisel gizmo for square-cornered hinges. These extras make it a heck of a deal. Now all I have to do is use it within the next week to gauge its functionality, and I'll get back to you. I'm expecting good results but will update it then.
