Makita LS1040 10" Compound Miter Saw

   Good saw except for the details
   Good motor, solid enough base and arm. Easy enough and accurate enough adjustment. Light enough to carry one-handed.nMy only problem is with the safety switch on top of the handle. Extra switch buttons were included, which tells me these things must break a lot. I wouldn't mind if it just broke and got replaced, but once it broke and now the electronic brake doesn't engage right. I don't like having a freewheeling blade, and I don't like waiting for it to stop. The rest of the saw is solid as ever, so I'll probably be dealing with this problem for years. I also lost the plastic thing that holds the dust bag shut right away. Not so great a design on that either, but it never caught much dust anyway.

   Being a finish carpenter for over 30 years I can say that this saw is excellent for the budget end of the Makita line...for the price it is very much worth it. The saw cuts accurately and is light in weight for portability.

   You'd think it would be easy to find a miter saw that cut straights, angles, and bevels accurately (without having to adjust them every time), but alas no. I went through a couple of cheaper brands hoping to save a few bucks... live and learn. This saw doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some other brands, but it cuts true.
