Henckels Five Star High-Carbon Stainless-Steel 7-Piece Knife Set with Block

This set supplies a cook with a variety of cutting edges and a solid wood block to store them in. The set consists of four kitchen knives, sturdy kitchen shears, a sharpening steel, and the block, which has four extra slots. An 8-inch chef's, a 3-inch paring, an 8-inch carving, and a 5-inch serrated utility knife make up the knives in the set. Henckels Five Star knives feature distinctive black polypropylene handles shaped like gentle waves that fit the hand snugly, though small-handed cooks might find them too thick and too long. The handles on these knives don't have full tangs. Except for fully forged blades less than 6 inches long, such as the paring and utility knives in this set, the blades and bolsters of Henckels's first-rate cutlery lines are formed by a high-tech welding process that combines three high-carbon, stainless-steel types into what appears to be a single piece so a knife's parts have distinct, desirable characteristics. Excellent knives, arrived in beautiful condition despite caveats of one previous reviewer. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I got a big set of 5 star knives for Christmas, and think they are great! They cut beautifully, are very well made, and easy to clean. I think the handles are really just a personal preference. I understand the blades are the same in the Pro S and 5 Star line. My dad (who also swears by Henckels)has the Pro S series, and finds the larger more ergonomic handles in the 5 Star line uncomfortable. But I find them easier to work with. I have noticed a few spot/stains on the blade of the large chefs knife in the past few months, but I assume that this is probably due to my own maintenance practices.

I spent the money and I love them. I read reviews about the handles being too bulky for those with small hands but I have had no problem with them and I do have small hands!
