It makes coffee a bit slow but it is still working a year later. This is apparently better than a lot of these type of coffee makers. I personally would like to have it heat a little warmer and make coffee a little faster, but this one is a good value compared to many out there that quite early, leak, or make lousy coffee. This one makes good coffee, not great but good, prbably a result of not being warm enough.

This is our second Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker. 43254 Hamilton Beach 43254 Classic Stainless 12 Cup Coffeemaker, Black. The unit has failed within one month. Hamilton Beach wants $15.99 to ship a replacement unit and wants us to ship them the power cord from the defective unit!! Steam comes out the top and the front of the unit, fogging the LCD clock and turning it black (such that it is difficult to read). You can get coffee out of the unit if you "whack" it every 15 seconds or so. It now consistently fails every time we make coffee. Hamilton Beach 43254 Classic Stainless 12-Cup Coffeemaker

Having owned this cofee maker for 2 weeks, there's at some serious problems with it: * The lid of the carafe was not designed for repeated removals - the plastic tabs that hold it on broke off after a week. * When the lid of the carafe isn't present (or isn't aligned with a mechanical stopper), the coffee maker prevents the coffee from dripping down ("sneak-a-cup" feature). However, if the lid is broken (see earlier point) this creates a huge mess and ruins the coffee since all 12 cups of boiling hot water then overflow the innards of the coffee maker. * The area for pouring the water in is rather narrow and it's easy to make a mess if your eye-hand coordination isn't top-notch (especially if you're making the coffee shortly after waking up and need that cup of coffee!). That said, programming the coffee maker is easy, and if you can avoid these problems (maybe never remove the carefe lid after installing it - which would mean never washing the dishwasher) and always pouring the water in while you're fully awake and don't need coffee, it's probably an OK coffee maker.
