This is pretty much the only kettle I could find that didn't contain any plastic in the areas where the water is boiled. So that's great. However, it is not cool to the touch - it's still pretty hot when you touch it right after the water has boiled!

After trying three kettles, this one actually does what it is supposed to: make hot water with no added taste. I tried the the inexpensive the Protor Silex K-2070-1 first. Did you say you wanted your tea to taste like the teabag? Forget it with the Proctor Silex. All I could taste was plastic - for hours. On to the cool Cloer 5054019. That blue light is pretty special. But the water tastes bad. Not as bad as the Proctor, but it left a taste as well. The Hamilton Beach is a no frills kettle, but it does what it's supposed to. The lid pivots in the middle, making it easy to fill and empty. The other nice thing about this kettle is that the outside doesn't get hot to the touch - just warm. The inside is a one piece stamped stainless liner with no rubber or plastic. The lid has some plastic components, but I noticed no taste.

It has a seamless stainless steel interior but a plastic lid which is a pain because I wanted to get away from plastic. However you can leave the lid off and I have just replaced it with a small saucepan lid. Hopefully it will be okay. It is solid and much better than the aroma kettle that is on here. That is flimsy and cheap.
