It is true that it makes a mess. And it does waste some beans after every use. And the reason why it makes a mess is because of the static electricity in the coffee holder (plastic square part). Also, it is true that the motor OVERRUNS/SPEEDS up when the beans are all finished grinding. I have had mine now for like maybe a year. I use it a lot!! IT is still working awesome!!! U can use greasy oily XTRA BOLD beans, but after every few uses you have to take a tooth pick and clean the greasy bean residue out of the HOLE where the coffee comes out. Otherwise I can see where people would think the machine POOPED out on them. It will stop grinding if the machine is all clogged up. And the motor will blow probably. But a 2 year old can figure out how to clean it and it is very easy to clean. U just have to turn it upside down to get all the OLD bean pieces out before every use since coffee gets stale easy, u dont wanna be drinking old stale bean pieces/beans. The toothpick part you only have to do maybe every 10 uses!!!!! That is the only part that will make your machine STOP grinding. And the machine grinds fine for FINE setting and COURSE for course setting. Mine is very consistent. Not sure if there are any reviews here about that or not. I cannot wait to make espresso. I just bought my first espresso machine. Shayna

I bought this product a little over a year ago. It simply self destructed while grinding some beans one morning. Motor would hum and no movement, noise of beans being ground. Upon unscrewing the reserve top I found the problem to be that the plastic screw threads used for the adjustments had been cracked by the beans being thrown against its walls from the two burr wheels located between the threading. Pieces of small plastic had actually fell though to be ground with the beans. The screws holding the two burr wheels in place had somehow came loose, two fell into my hand upon turning it. This has to be the cheapest design made. I will never buy this brand again due to this experience, I resorted back to my old standby in the cabinet, a Braun grinder. I have had this grinder for over seven years without a problem and paid about half what this cost. Buyer beware.

I've had this grinder for almost 3 years now and it is still going strong. The grind is good and the bean hopper mechanism is excellent. I was motivated to write this review, though, because I am tired of the noise. I cringe every morning I turn it on because the thing is so loud. Some times I cover it with a kitchen towel or two to dampen the noise. I have often fantasized about making a quilted cover similar to a tea cozy that fits the machine so I can slide the hood over it while it grinds. The other downside is it makes a big mess of ground coffee on the counter when you remove the lid due to the static electricity mentioned by others. Now my routine is to remove the container and tap it in the sink a few times to get all the grounds to settle before opening it over the sink, but even this method does not completely avoid the mess. All this has made me consider getting one of the all-in-one grinder/brewers to avoid the mess and so that I can set the timer to go off when I don't have to listen to the noise. Alas, I am an espresso drinker and all that integration is available mainly in investment-grade setups.
