What is a condensate pump?
First of all, what is condensate? Essentially, condensate is water that was formerly gas turned into liquid. A condensate pump works by collecting condensate and then pumping it elsewhere. Household appliances that use a condensate pump include:
- Heating and cooling units
- Refrigerators
- Furnaces
- Steam systems
Condensate pumps are imperative to have properly functioning appliances. To explain further, let’s look at an air conditioning system. Before cooling the air, the system has to pull out all of the humidity (or moisture). The pump collects this moisture and then literally pumps it out periodically. Some pump the liquid into a drain while others such as those with steam systems, reuse the liquid. Condensate pumps aren’t usually something you have to deal with but it’s always nice to know how systems in your own home work.
