Things to consider when buying a coffee table

People generally give a lot of importance to the color, pattern and size of the sofa set in their living rooms. However, little emphasis is given to the coffee table that goes with it. A mismatch between the sofa set and the coffee table can ruin the entire look of a room. A coffee table should complement the rest of the furnishing in the room and is a key element in decorating the room. You can choose a coffee table that looks modern, traditional or something that transcends both. One has many options in terms of colors, shapes, material and length when it comes to choosing a coffee table.

Color: The color of the coffee table should be complimentary to the sofa set and should not clash with the color of the sofa. For example, if you have a beautiful red colored sofa set then you can have a black round coffee table.

Shape: There are varieties of shapes to choose from. You can get tables that are oval, rectangular, square or round.

Table top Material: You should also choose a table top material that complements the rest of the room. Some options are glass, marble, wood and slate.

Size: A coffee table should be two-thirds the length of the sofa set. So if you have a sofa set that is six foot long then the coffee table should be four feet in length.

Finally, if you are looking to make your room unique and exotic then consider adding furniture pieces that contrast with your sofa and coffee table. A small elephant table that will serve as an art piece as well as a drinks table would be a good choice.
