Alternate replacement of Aqua Clear inserts retains sufficient bacterial populations to rapidly reseed the biological filter after cleaning. Continuous breakdown of harmful toxins, in addition to superb solid and liquid waste removal, adds up to the best filtration for the aquarium hobbyist. Ultragrade Carbon is premium research quality, super activated granular carbon that offers maximum usable surface area, both for adsorption of liquefied impurities, organic compounds, odors, etc. and for usable attachment nodes for bacteria. The bag material also provides a large area for beneficial bacteria to populate. The internal configuration of this carbon is extremely porous to afford superb adsorption of all forms of liquid impurities found in aquarium water. Important--remove protective dust sleeve before use. Rinse carbon insert thoroughly. The adsorptive capacity of Ultragrade Carbon can rapidly remove available oxygen from the aquarium water when placed dry in a filter. Remove cover of filter. Pull out filter basket. Place carbon insert on top of Aqua Clear Foam Insert. Replace basket in filter. Rinse carbon insert weekly. Replace once a month, sooner if required. Never replace carbon and foam simultaneously. Alternate replacement of filter media allows the biological action of the nitrifying bacteria to remain uninterrupted.
