Considering Bialetti's goal, to brew a real cup of espresso quickly easily and inexpensively using no more than your stovetop, it really would be no surprise if the Brikka failed on one count, or even two. But this thing really does work. Put coffee and water in proper places, set it on a hot plate, wait as it works up pressure and then jump up as soon as the espresso flows, pour into a cup and enjoy. It has never failed, and the cost/benefit ratio is incredible. I can't imagine having one of those complicated machines to make espresso, which to judge by reviews still fail to produce good espresso below the top price bracket. They must be a chore to clean, too - not the Brikka, which is easier to clean than a French Press.

I am a coffee addict and this is the best so far from Italy that can be produced on a stove top quickly. Don't clean it with commercial cleansers as the chemicals will leach into the metal. Also, use distilled cool water with coarse ground beans. I have a variety of machines and beans. I test all coffee and machines on many friends and guests. Only good reviews...even with average quality beans.

OK, it's not espresso "per se" (to use the older Italian), but it's very good coffee and fun to make. I find that I get different amounts of crema from different beans. My local coffee, Equal Exchange, gets nice and creamy with Brikka, but some others are just "flat". Overall, this is a great pot.

We became spoiled with excellent coffee during a trip to Spain. After researching how the Spanish coffee is made, we learned that Spanish households all have a simple stovetop coffee maker like the Bialetti. So we ordered it and it is FANTASTIC! It is simple to use, sturdy, and makes the same wonderful coffee we enjoyed in Spain. And what a value for $20!!!!!!

I absolutely love my Moka Espress and always try to heat the coffee at the lowest possible setting on my stove. I either heated it a little too high or did not let it completely dry out after cleaning it one day, because it corroded on the inside (where the water goes). There is now white spots inside and the espresso tastes really funny. I know your not supposed to use soap to clean it, but is there some way I can remove the corrosion safely so I can continue to use the espresso maker? Or is it ruined? Please help! Thanks!!

I love everything about this machine, even the waiting is okay. It makes a good strong espresso, with no muss, no fuss, no disassembling a complicated electic machine (which doesn't do crema, btw), just let it cool and rinse. Why did I wait so long? Fifty million Italians can't be wrong (but I paraphrase).

I received this stovetop coffeemaker after placing it on my amazon wish list -- i had heard from a friend that this was a great way to have authentic coffee without an expensive espresso maker occupying valuable counter space. He was right -- after making one pot of "throwaway" coffee to get it seasoned, I was well on the way to making a delicious cup of coffee -- i set the gas burner on medium heat and after a few minutes the coffee was brewed and ready to pour. it makes an incredibly rich cup of coffee -- on the spectrum between coffee and espresso it is closer to espresso, but not as thick. highly recommended and worth every penny. time will tell how long it lasts, but if the other amazon reviews are any indication, i think i'll be passing by the coffee shop in the morning and saving some money whilst enjoying my stovetop-made cup of coffee!

Espresso doesn't get much better than this. Why spend hundreds when this little gem makes some of the finest espresso you'll ever drink. Of course, the quality of the bean and fine grind is the secret.
