In my opinion, for a room to look good, it is important to place pieces that complement each other rather than clash with each other. Also, if you do like to place unique pieces in a room try to tie the room together with an area rug. It helps to balance off the various patterns and colors and make it look very coherent.

If you have furniture pieces or wall art or curtain that are in bold colors or patterns then place a simple, one toned color area rug that will complement the pieces in the room.
